  25. NewTek opened the architecture of LightWave by adding plugins.  There was a
  26. definite business reason behind this: foster third-party development.  In this
  27. case, third-party is defined as non-NewTek.  My "gripe" is with the possibility
  28. that NewTek might step into their own third-party market and become a
  29. competitor.  That is ugly and inconsiderate, and as you've observed, that's
  30. life.  However, should it come to that, nobody that knows me well would
  31. expect me to sit quitely with a grin on my face while somebody pisses down
  32. my back.

  34. When LightWave 4.0 finally hit the streets, there were numerous email postings,
  35. questions concerning the availability of scripting on non-Amiga platforms.  On
  36. more than one occasion, Stuart Furgeson stepped in and responded that the
  37. plugin SDK was designed specifically to allow somebody to accomplish it.  He
  38. was making it subtly clear that, if scripting were going to be a possibility
  39. on all those new platforms, then it would be accomplished through a third-
  40. party.

  42. As coincidence would have it, I was right in the middle of developing BML when
  43. he made those public remarks.
